Questions people ask

If yours is not here, the About page explains the whole thing.

What is SeeAllCars?

A free, searchable index of vehicles publicly advertised for sale in the United States. Instead of checking a dozen dealership sites one at a time, you search once and see what is on all of them. Every result links to the seller's own page.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free and there is no account. You only sign up if you want to list a car yourself.

Where do the listings come from?

From the sellers' own websites. An automated reader visits dealership sites every night and records what is advertised there; dealers can also upload a file or give us an inventory feed. Private sellers list their car directly.

How current is it?

The index is refreshed nightly, and busy sites more often. When a car disappears from the seller's site we mark it as gone — usually that means it sold. If a listing looks stale, the seller's page is the authority, which is why every result links straight to it.

Can I buy a car through this site?

No. We are an index, not a dealer and not a broker. Clicking a listing takes you to the seller, and you deal with them directly. We take no commission on a car sold through a listing here, and we do not sell your details as a lead.

Do you really have every car in the country?

Not yet. We hold what we can see and we add more every night. Some sites refuse automated readers and we respect that. The honest current number is shown on the About page.

What does the 'estimate' tag on a price mean?

Some sellers advertise a car without a price. Where we have enough comparable listings we publish our own estimate and label it clearly as ours. An estimate is never presented as the seller's asking price.

Why do you show the VIN?

Because it is the one identifier that tells you two adverts are the same physical car — that is how duplicates get collapsed here. It also lets you run your own history check before you drive anywhere.

Do you inspect the cars or check the sellers?

No. We report what is advertised. We do not see the car, we do not verify the seller's description, and nothing here is a recommendation. Inspect anything before you buy it.

How do I sell my car here?

Create an account, tell us about the car, and upload your driver's licence and the registration or title so we can confirm it is yours to sell. Once a person has checked it, the listing goes live free. Your documents are encrypted, seen only by a reviewer, and deleted once the decision is made.

I'm a dealer — what does it cost?

Nothing, permanently. Upload a spreadsheet, point us at your inventory feed, or let the crawler read your site. There is no paid placement: nobody can buy a higher position in the results.

I'm a seller and I want my listings removed.

Say so and they come out, no argument. Email the address on the dealer page or block SeeAllCarsBot in your robots.txt — we check it on every visit and stop on our own.

How do I report something wrong in a listing?

Tell us which listing and what is wrong. If the error came from the seller's page we will show what we read; if it came from us, we fix it.
