The idea

Every car for sale in America is already published somewhere — on a dealership's website, a manufacturer's inventory page, a classified ad. But it is published in ten thousand places at once, and no single page will show you all of it. You end up checking a dozen sites, each one showing you a slice, each one deciding what you get to see.

SeeAllCars exists to be the one page that shows the whole market. Not a selection. Not the dealers who paid the most. Every car we can see, listed together, searchable in one box.

How it works

  1. We read sellers' own websites. Every night an automated index visits the sites of dealerships across the country and records what is advertised: year, make, model, trim, price, mileage, VIN, colour, location.
  2. We decode the VIN. Specifications are filled in from the NHTSA vPIC public database, so a search for a drivetrain or a body style works even when the seller left the field blank.
  3. We collapse duplicates. One physical car advertised on four sites is one result here, with the other three shown underneath it. You see cars, not adverts.
  4. We send you to the seller. Every listing links to the page it came from. We do not sell cars, take a cut, or sell your details to a dealer.

What we store, and what we don't

We record facts: the price, the mileage, the VIN, where the car is. Facts about the world are not anyone's property. We do not copy a seller's photographs onto our servers or reproduce their advertising copy — a photo you see here is loaded from the seller's own site, and the link takes you to them.

We obey robots.txt everywhere we read, we identify ourselves honestly as SeeAllCarsBot, and we crawl slowly enough that no one notices the load. Any seller who wants their inventory out of the index can have it removed — see the FAQ.

Are we actually showing every car?

Not yet, and we would rather say so than pretend. Today the index holds 1,158,966 vehicles from 3,827 sellers, and it grows every night as more dealership websites are added. Some sites block automated readers outright; we respect that and move on. The target is all of it.

What it costs

Nothing, to anybody. Shoppers search free and never make an account. Dealers list free and always will — there is no paid placement, no featured listing, and no way to buy a better position in the results. A search ranks by what you asked for, never by who paid.

Selling a car

Private sellers can list free once they prove the car is theirs; here is how that works. Dealers can upload a file, point us at an inventory feed, or simply let the crawler find their site — details for dealers.
